Matcha Matcha Matcha

Think there's only one way to make matcha, think again. The internet is full of crafty ways to mix your favorite drink. Sweetened, unsweetened, milky, water-based, foamy, creamy, you name it - it exists. Here we share the basics of matcha whisking and the not so basics.

LET'S START BY FINDING YOUR PREFERRED METHOD OF MAKING AN ICED LATTE. TRY ONE OF THESE WAYS:

Hot Whisked Iced Latte

  1. Sift around 4 grams of matcha into your whisking bowl.
  2. Add 50 grams of 70-80°C water.
  3. Whisk vigorously for roughly 30-60 seconds ensuring you fully dissolve the powder.
  4. Add between 5-10 grams of your preferred sweetener (honey, syrup, agave, etc.)
  5. Grab your favorite cup and add about 100 grams of ice and between 80 to 150 grams of your milk of choice.
  6. Pour in your matcha and enjoy!

(PASTE METHOD)

Hot Whisked Iced Latte

  1. Sift ~4 grams of matcha into your whisking bowl
  2. Add ~10 grams of cool/ room temp water
  3. Whisk in a circular motion for ~30 seconds ensuring you fully dissolve the powder
  4. Add ~40 grams of 70-80°C water
  5. Whisk vigorously for another 30-60 seconds creating a layer of micro foam
  6. Add between 5-10 grams of your preferred sweetener (honey, syrup, agave, etc…)
  7. Grab your favorite cup and add ~100 grams of ice and 80-150 grams of your milk of choice
  8. Pour in your matcha and enjoy!

Cold Whisked Iced Latte

  1. Add ~150 grams of milk into your whisking bowl
  2. Sift ~3-4 grams of matcha into your whisking bowl
  3. Whisk vigorously for ~30-60 seconds ensuring you fully dissolve the powder
  4. Add between 5-10 grams of your preferred sweetener (honey, syrup, agave, etc…)
  5. Grab your favorite cup and add ~100 grams of ice
  6. Pour in your matcha and enjoy!

(PASTE METHOD)

Cold Whisked Iced Latte

  1. Add ~10 grams of milk into your whisking bowl
  2. Sift ~3-4 grams of matcha over your milk
  3. Whisk for ~30 seconds ensuring you fully dissolve the powder
  4. Add ~40 grams of milk
  5. Whisk vigorously for another 30-60 seconds
  6. Add between 5-10 grams of your preferred sweetener (honey, syrup, agave, etc…) and give it a generous stir with a spoon
  7. Grab your favorite cup and add ~100 grams of ice and 80-150 grams of your milk of choice
  8. Pour in your matcha and enjoy!

(FOAM METHOD)

Cold Whisked Iced Latte

  1. Add ~60 grams of milk into your whisking bowl or a tall cup
  2. Sift ~3-4 grams of matcha over your milk
  3. Grab your electric whisker
  4. Whisk for ~30 seconds (also helps to have a chasen handy in case any powder gets stuck to the sides or bottom to ensure you fully dissolve the powder)
  5. Add between 3-5 grams of your preferred sweetener (honey, syrup, agave, etc…) and give it a generous stir with a spoon
  6. Grab your favorite cup and 100-150 grams of your milk of choice
  7. Add between 7-10 grams of sweetener to your milk
  8. Add ~100 grams of ice
  9. Pour in your matcha foam and enjoy!
  10. We also recommend adding a pinch of sea salt on top of your foam for some umami flavor!

Iced Usucha

  1. Sift ~2 grams of matcha into your whisking bowl
  2. Add ~50 grams of cool/ room temp water
  3. Whisk vigorously for ~30-60 seconds ensuring you fully dissolve the powder
  4. Grab your favorite cup and add ~100 grams of ice and 50 grams of cool water
  5. Pour in your matcha and enjoy!

Hot Matchas

Hojicha Syrup

  1. Sift ~30 grams of hojicha into a large bowl
  2. Add ~60 grams of your sugar blend into your bowl
  3. Add 150 grams of 85°C water
  4. Whisk vigorously for ~30-60 seconds ensuring you fully dissolve the powder and the sugar
  5. Let cool for a few hours
  6. Pour into your serving bottle
  7. Refrigerate for at least a few hours
  8. Grab your favorite cup and add ~100 grams of ice and 80-150 grams of your milk of choice
  9. Pour in 20-40 grams of your hojicha syrup 
  10. Enjoy!
  11. Add ~75-100 grams of 70-80°C water
