Think there's only one way to make matcha, think again. The internet is full of crafty ways to mix your favorite drink. Sweetened, unsweetened, milky, water-based, foamy, creamy, you name it - it exists. Here we share the basics of matcha whisking and the not so basics.
LET'S START BY FINDING YOUR PREFERRED METHOD OF MAKING AN ICED LATTE. TRY ONE OF THESE WAYS:
Hot Whisked Iced Latte
- Sift around 4 grams of matcha into your whisking bowl.
- Add 50 grams of 70-80°C water.
- Whisk vigorously for roughly 30-60 seconds ensuring you fully dissolve the powder.
- Add between 5-10 grams of your preferred sweetener (honey, syrup, agave, etc.)
- Grab your favorite cup and add about 100 grams of ice and between 80 to 150 grams of your milk of choice.
- Pour in your matcha and enjoy!
(PASTE METHOD)
Hot Whisked Iced Latte
- Sift ~4 grams of matcha into your whisking bowl
- Add ~10 grams of cool/ room temp water
- Whisk in a circular motion for ~30 seconds ensuring you fully dissolve the powder
- Add ~40 grams of 70-80°C water
- Whisk vigorously for another 30-60 seconds creating a layer of micro foam
- Add between 5-10 grams of your preferred sweetener (honey, syrup, agave, etc…)
- Grab your favorite cup and add ~100 grams of ice and 80-150 grams of your milk of choice
- Pour in your matcha and enjoy!
Cold Whisked Iced Latte
- Add ~150 grams of milk into your whisking bowl
- Sift ~3-4 grams of matcha into your whisking bowl
- Whisk vigorously for ~30-60 seconds ensuring you fully dissolve the powder
- Add between 5-10 grams of your preferred sweetener (honey, syrup, agave, etc…)
- Grab your favorite cup and add ~100 grams of ice
- Pour in your matcha and enjoy!

Cold Whisked Iced Latte
- Add ~10 grams of milk into your whisking bowl
- Sift ~3-4 grams of matcha over your milk
- Whisk for ~30 seconds ensuring you fully dissolve the powder
- Add ~40 grams of milk
- Whisk vigorously for another 30-60 seconds
- Add between 5-10 grams of your preferred sweetener (honey, syrup, agave, etc…) and give it a generous stir with a spoon
- Grab your favorite cup and add ~100 grams of ice and 80-150 grams of your milk of choice
- Pour in your matcha and enjoy!
(FOAM METHOD)
Cold Whisked Iced Latte
- Add ~60 grams of milk into your whisking bowl or a tall cup
- Sift ~3-4 grams of matcha over your milk
- Grab your electric whisker
- Whisk for ~30 seconds (also helps to have a chasen handy in case any powder gets stuck to the sides or bottom to ensure you fully dissolve the powder)
- Add between 3-5 grams of your preferred sweetener (honey, syrup, agave, etc…) and give it a generous stir with a spoon
- Grab your favorite cup and 100-150 grams of your milk of choice
- Add between 7-10 grams of sweetener to your milk
- Add ~100 grams of ice
- Pour in your matcha foam and enjoy!
- We also recommend adding a pinch of sea salt on top of your foam for some umami flavor!
Iced Usucha
- Sift ~2 grams of matcha into your whisking bowl
- Add ~50 grams of cool/ room temp water
- Whisk vigorously for ~30-60 seconds ensuring you fully dissolve the powder
- Grab your favorite cup and add ~100 grams of ice and 50 grams of cool water
- Pour in your matcha and enjoy!

Hojicha Syrup
- Sift ~30 grams of hojicha into a large bowl
- Add ~60 grams of your sugar blend into your bowl
- Add 150 grams of 85°C water
- Whisk vigorously for ~30-60 seconds ensuring you fully dissolve the powder and the sugar
- Let cool for a few hours
- Pour into your serving bottle
- Refrigerate for at least a few hours
- Grab your favorite cup and add ~100 grams of ice and 80-150 grams of your milk of choice
- Pour in 20-40 grams of your hojicha syrup
- Enjoy!
